COMPAREHornetsecurity alternative · For MSPs

The Hornetsecurity alternative built for white-label MSPs.

Hornetsecurity's Security Awareness Service is one module of a broad email-security suite. Cyber Aware does one thing: human-risk programmes MSPs run under their own brand - training, phishing and gap assessments with no seat minimums.

WHY MSPS SWITCH

Where the two platforms part ways.

🏷

White-label depth

Hornetsecurity sells its email security white-label or co-branded through partners, but its Security Awareness Service materials make no branding promise for the training portal, phishing emails or certificates end clients actually see. Cyber Aware puts your logo on all of it.

💺

Published pricing, no seat minimums

Hornetsecurity doesn't publish pricing for the Security Awareness Service - it's folded into a 365 Total Protection tier and you request a trial to find out more. Cyber Aware is pay-per-seat with no minimums.

🧭

Suite module vs specialist platform

Security awareness is one line item inside a suite that also covers email security, backup and archiving - now part of Proofpoint following a December 2025 acquisition. Cyber Aware is a dedicated human-risk platform, nothing else competing for the roadmap.

🇦🇺

Australian framework coverage

Nothing in Hornetsecurity's public materials references Essential 8 or SMB1001. Cyber Aware ships mapping and evidence for both out of the box.

White-labeling: whose brand does the client see?

Hornetsecurity markets the Security Awareness Service to "MSPs & Channel Partners" and, as of its December 2025 acquisition announcement, serves customers through 12,000-plus MSPs and channel partners globally. Its distributors describe the company's email security as sold "white-label or co-branded" - but that claim is specific to the email security gateway. The Security Awareness Service product page and launch materials we reviewed make no equivalent branding promise for the training portal, the phishing simulation emails, or the Employee Security Index reports and certificates an end client actually opens.

Cyber Aware takes the opposite default: portal, notification emails, completion certificates and reports all carry the MSP's own logo and domain, with no Cyber Aware branding visible to end clients.

For MSPs whose pitch is "we are your security team," that distinction shows up at renewal time - clients associate the protection with the MSP, not a vendor name they've never seen.

IN DEPTH

Pricing model: bundled suite vs pay-per-seat

Hornetsecurity doesn't publish pricing for the Security Awareness Service on its own. It ships inside the "Compliance & Awareness" tier of the wider 365 Total Protection suite - alongside email security, backup and compliance archiving in the other tiers - and the plans page routes prospects to a trial request rather than a price list.

That bundling can work well for MSPs already standardised on 365 Total Protection for email security and backup - one invoice, one vendor relationship. It's harder to evaluate for an MSP that just wants awareness training priced on its own merits.

Cyber Aware publishes a pay-per-seat rate with no seat minimums, so a five-seat client and a five-hundred-seat client sit on the same card and neither needs a sales call to find out the number.

IN DEPTH

Phishing: Spear Phishing Engine vs Auto Phish

Hornetsecurity's Spear Phishing Engine builds simulations using psychological-manipulation factors and publicly available company data, and pairs results with the Employee Security Index (ESI®), their industry-unique benchmark that scores and compares employee security behaviour over time.

Cyber Aware's Auto Phish generates a full year of phishing campaigns - varied templates, difficulty and cadence - from a single setup conversation, so an MSP isn't hand-building a new campaign every month across every client.

Both approaches automate difficulty scaling over time. The practical difference for an MSP is less about the underlying technique and more about how much of each vendor's roadmap is dedicated to phishing specifically, versus split across a wider security suite.

IN DEPTH

Suite module vs dedicated platform - and a recent acquisition

The Security Awareness Service sits inside a broader Hornetsecurity/365 Total Protection lineup that also covers email security, backup and compliance archiving - one module inside a suite, competing for engineering and support attention alongside the rest.

In December 2025, Proofpoint completed a $1.8 billion acquisition of Hornetsecurity. Hornetsecurity now operates as a dedicated MSP business unit inside Proofpoint, with its existing leadership continuing in place and the company stating continuity of service for customers and partners. That's a normal part of vendor consolidation in this market, and worth factoring into any long-term platform decision.

Cyber Aware is a single-purpose human-risk platform - training, phishing and gap assessments - with no wider suite, and no corporate integration underway, competing for its roadmap.

FAIR SHAKE

When Hornetsecurity might be the better fit

  • Already standardised on 365 Total Protection for email security and backup - one bill, one admin console, and awareness training slots into a tier you're already paying for.
  • Want a vendor headquartered in the EU - Hornetsecurity GmbH is a German company with international offices, which may suit MSPs whose clients specifically prefer EU-domiciled vendors for email and data handling.
  • Value the Spear Phishing Engine's specific approach - building scenarios from publicly available company data is a distinct technique some security teams weight heavily on its own merits.
  • Want one vendor across email security, backup, compliance archiving and awareness - if consolidating everything Microsoft 365-related under a single supplier matters more than a best-of-breed awareness platform, the suite model has real appeal.
QUESTIONS

Frequently asked

Is Cyber Aware a white-label alternative to Hornetsecurity's Security Awareness Service?

Yes. Cyber Aware is built specifically for MSPs to run training, phishing simulations and gap assessments under their own brand - portal, emails, reports and certificates all carry the MSP's logo, not Cyber Aware's.

Does Hornetsecurity offer white-label security awareness training for MSPs?

Hornetsecurity markets its Security Awareness Service to MSPs and channel partners, and its distributors describe the company's email security as sold white-label or co-branded. As of July 2026, we found no equivalent white-label claim specifically for the Security Awareness Service's training portal, phishing emails or certificates - MSPs evaluating this should confirm directly with Hornetsecurity what end clients see.

What does switching from Hornetsecurity to Cyber Aware involve?

Most MSPs import client and end-user lists, apply the MSP's branding to the portal and templates, and schedule the first phishing and training campaigns - typically a same-day setup with no seat minimums to plan around.

Does Hornetsecurity's Security Awareness Service support Essential 8 or SMB1001 for Australian businesses?

We found no public reference to Essential 8 or SMB1001 in Hornetsecurity's Security Awareness Service materials as of July 2026. Hornetsecurity is a pan-European, Microsoft 365-centric vendor; MSPs serving Australian clients should confirm current framework support directly with Hornetsecurity. Cyber Aware maps and evidences both frameworks out of the box.

How does Hornetsecurity price its Security Awareness Service?

Hornetsecurity does not publish pricing for the Security Awareness Service on its own. It's offered inside the Compliance & Awareness tier of the 365 Total Protection suite, and pricing requires contacting Hornetsecurity or a partner directly. Cyber Aware publishes a pay-per-seat rate with no seat minimums.

Is Hornetsecurity still an independent company?

No. Proofpoint completed its acquisition of Hornetsecurity in December 2025. Hornetsecurity now operates as a dedicated MSP business unit within Proofpoint, with its founding CEO continuing to lead that unit.
